FAQs
Erasmus
1. Who is actually eligible for KA131 Staff Mobility?
Many people assume it’s only for professors. In reality, it covers two categories:
STA (Staff Mobility for Teaching): For academic staff to teach at a partner institution.
STT (Staff Mobility for Training): For both academic and administrative staff (HR, International Office, IT, etc.) to engage in professional development.
2. Can I go to a country outside of the EU?
While KA131 primarily focuses on Program Countries (EU member states + associated countries like Norway or Turkey), a portion of the budget can be used for international mobility (Region 14), allowing travel to "Partner Countries" worldwide.
3. How is the "Grant" calculated?
This is the big one. The funding consists of two parts:
Individual Support: A daily rate based on the cost of living in the destination country.
Travel Support: A fixed amount based on the distance between your home city and the host city (calculated using the official EU distance calculator).
4. What is the minimum and maximum duration?
For KA131, the mobility must be at least 2 consecutive working days and can last up to 2 months (60 days). Most staff mobilities usually average around 5 to 7 days.
5. Do I need a formal Inter-Institutional Agreement (IIA)?
For Teaching (STA): Yes. There must be a signed agreement between your home university and the host university in that specific subject area.
For Training (STT): Not necessarily. You can often go to a company or another university without a pre-existing IIA, provided they agree to host you.
6. What counts as "Green Travel"?
With the new focus on sustainability, participants can get a higher travel grant if they use low-emissions transport (train, bus, or carpooling). Students and staff often ask exactly how much extra they get and what proof (tickets) is required.
7. Can I combine teaching and training?
Yes! You can "mix" the two. If you combine teaching and training in a single stay, the minimum number of teaching hours is usually reduced (typically from 8 hours down to 4 hours per week).
8. Is there support for staff with "Fewer Opportunities"?
Erasmus+ provides Inclusion Support. If a staff member has physical, mental, or health-related conditions, they can apply for additional funding to cover 100% of the actual extra costs incurred.
9. What are the mandatory documents?
The "Big Three" are:
Mobility Agreement: Signed by all three parties before you leave.
Grant Agreement: The financial contract.
Certificate of Attendance: Signed by the host at the end of the stay.
10. Can I go to a conference with this funding?
This is a frequent point of confusion. Purely attending a conference is generally not funded under KA131. The mobility must involve active training (workshadowing, workshops) or teaching.
